Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.
It is probably worth the effort if one can stick with it, but so is Blender, Wings, DAZ|Studio and many more that produce great results. It's the effort involved that's like going on a diet, and I just can't get going on it

How is the proceedural textures in Lightwave? They are ok and sometimes pretty good. Also there are freebies like the symbiont and the darktree texture generators. One of those will also work on truespace. Think its the darktree one.
Also I have been using textures from Artmatic pro. When I have a vague idea on textures, I just run the randomizer and eventually I will find what I want or maybe better.
Lightwave comes with a scripting language, think its python and there is a c based sdk too.
Vue 5 infinite is actually pretty good but I have not really worked with it that much. Its easier to go to bryce since I know it better and its on multiple machines. Can setup the scene on the pc, pass the scene to the mac to render and walk away. Come back when its done. Also bryce puts everything in one file unlike lightwave with its hard coded full paths. Vue 5 seems to work better with lightwave than bryce, can bring in models with textures and its not one big mesh. The textures don't carry over but you can set up the textures inside of Vue.
Vue 6 is supposed to have plugin support for lightwave and that sounds good.

I generally like to stay with one App to see how far one can go with the native content and their proceedural textures, but I do mix them up (I really like the Carrara Formula Objects & Textures) I like to use macro generated Paths in TurboCAD and Corel Draw as masks in PhotoPaint X3 to render in DAZ through the Displacement Map and diffuse Color Map
I have other galleries at Art Zone at Renderosity that show more modelling stuff. I would love to have IronCAD and have tried the free Alibre Design Express. Can't seem to get into Blender, though it looks fairly advanced Have TrueSpace 5.2 on the old box, but haven't used it in a couple years
How is the proceedural textures in Lightwave? and does it come with a scripting language?

So when you use your 3d apps do you mix and match or its all from one app?
I use: Lightwave 9.3.1 Bryce 5.1/5.5 Caligari truespace - real good with metaballs, better than lightwave. Photoshop- postwork and fussing with textures. Artmatic pro- real good with generating textures. Vue 5 infinite
Been using bryce since Bryce 2, use it now for a few old pictures and for skies. Lightwave's build in skies are only good for Earth type skies. Also I have been using jpgs from Bryce for some textures in Lightwave. Since I have been getting better at box modeling, I don't need metaballs that much now. I use metaballs for irregular stuff but they have a lot of polys.

Yes I do, or rather did as I just got a new quad core and don't have Carrara 3d Basics on here, though may buy Carrara 3d Express for this. Also, I didn't move ArchiCAD over as it is 4 years old and may not work on Vista HP and I did not go through the effort of trying to reregister.
But, I did upgrade to Bryce 6 here, so we'll see what new things It can produce. Also I finally had to upgrade my TurboCAD 9 to the current 14 since v9.2 wouldn't install on vista, since it is missing the MFC DLL but it has eliminated VBA, so I can't generate new mathematical surfaces and curves.
In short, I would have been happy to keep using the old 2000 box, but was running at 150% of 250mb RAM and had 2 full discs..
What about you, What are your Tools/Toys of choice?
Thanks for dropping by.

i've tried to use terragen2...but it's so slow...!i don't know if it's a problem of the computer or of the program... the pics rendered by tg2 are great, but tg.9 it's easier to use!
